Just a Friend

Hello.

In an attempt to not match a face to the blog posts that are to come, you can call
me “Just a Friend”- nice to meet you. Here are a few important details about me.

  • I am a guy
  • I am straight
  • I have a lot of friends who are girls
  • Thus my nickname, “Just a Friend.”

Since I can remember, I never had a problem with being friends with girls. Contrary to Duncan,
I believe I know exactly why this is- I never bought into the whole “cooties” craze and in an
escape of the hectic and chaotic nature of pre-pubescent boys, I found comfort in the forming
friendships with girls, while maintaining the personality and interests of any elementary school
boy. I had a nice mixture of boys and girls as friends, and I never saw any issue with that. I had
my first crush in fourth grade- word leaked to her of my crush, and she told me that I was just
a friend, in a very elementary school fashion. That seemed to be the birth of the “just friends”
excuse which I would soon hear again.

Now I don’t decide that I am going to have a crush on someone. I have a bad habit of being
interested in girls who I already have a strong friendship with. As my nickname suggests,
usually the feelings aren’t reciprocated, thus I am left relatively under experienced and
somewhat lonely. I am definitely not taking a break, I am not looking to date casually, I do
not have a girlfriend, and I do not feel as though I’m looking- I definitely have my sights set on
someone, and now it’s about making sure that I don’t end up as just a friend like so many times
before.
